Living at Kuwala: food crops are growing, walkways are being installed brick by brick, paving the way for a bright future.
Get ready to walk into a Kuwala classroom without getting a ‘booter’ when it rains! As the season of potato harvesting and a bounty of garden vegetables approaches harvest, our talented cooks are gearing up to elevate the menu in the month to follow kitchen upgrades.

The campus has also seen a remarkable upgrade to its biogas system, which now boasts a third digester and a greenhouse covering the first two. This innovative greenhouse approach maximizes gas production efficiency by creating an ideal environment for anaerobic digestion. The natural greenhouse effect raises the internal temperature, boosting microbial activity and ramping up biogas generation. To further this progress, Kuwala has introduced a new pump system that streamlines biogas output, replacing the old method that relied on manual counterweights. Thanks to this upgrade, the kitchen can now fire up two burners simultaneously with the increased volume of biogas.
Safety at the Campus.

As our campus community expands, so does our commitment to safety. Kuwala has rolled out an essential Fire Safety Program to equip students and faculty with the knowledge and tools necessary to handle emergencies. For many, this is their first encounter with a fire extinguisher. Fire stations have been strategically placed across campus to ensure preparedness, and teachers have conducted drills to emphasize the importance of fire safety and emergency response.
New pathways, no more ‘booters.’

Safety also means accessibility and new walkways have made it easier and drier to get around the campus, especially during the rainy season. Gone are the days of sidestepping puddles and muck—these pathways allow students and staff to traverse the campus confidently and efficiently. The improvements have genuinely been a game-changer! With the added solar lighting along the paths, the campus has become a more inviting and secure space for everyone, day or night. What’s a ‘booter?’ No it’s not a typo, it’s a ‘soaker.’
